Enterprise event at Thomas Adams School

Today some of our Y6 pupils attended Thomas Adams for a business and enterprise event where they had to create an innovative sandwich or wrap. They had to design their produce, cost it out, work out the profits and come up with ideas to market their product. They made posters and catchy jingles, they then had to present them to the judges to be in with a chance of winning. They were creative, brave and worked very well as teams. Well done to all involved.

Welcome to Class 6!

PE days are scheduled for each Monday and Wednesday  this first half term, but please ensure kits are in school all week as these may change. Trainers are required all week to enable children to participate in the daily run.  The children will be undertaking Bikeability in October – further information will be sent out shortly.

Music lessons will happen  on a Friday, so Dood’s must be in school in  preparation for the lesson.

Spellings are sent home on Monday each week to be learnt at home throughout the week, spelling test is on Friday. Please ensure spelling folders come back into school  each day.

Please use Mymaths.com and EdShed and Rollama to support learning – there are lots of games and lessons to help the children to revise.

Goodbye Y6

Wishing our fabulous year 6 pupils the very best of luck for their onward learning journeys.

Y6 – You’ve been amazing, we are very proud of you, now go forwards with your heads held high, embrace the opportunities at your secondary schools and always remember to live out the school values and be the best that you can be!

Thomas Adams Science Lesson

This week year 5 and some year 6 pupils had an exciting science lesson from Mr Gilbert a teacher at Thomas Adams school. The children tested water resistance by dropping plasticine shapes in oil and they made a rocket which they later launched into the sky from the school field. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and impressed Mr Gilbert with their excellent behaviour, enthusiam and scientific knowledge. It was lovely to give the children a taste of how exciting science is – especially once they get to secondary school.

Uniform

A reminder that full uniform is expected at all times. Even though we are approaching the end of term, that shouldn’t mean that we let pride in our uniform standards slip.  We wear our Hodnet blue, to show that we are part of our school team, we are smart, proud and ready to learn. We are also adhering to our school rules and values by wearing the correct uniform, as it is a school policy to wear it.

Uniform is a fundamental part of most schools and other organisations procedures, ensuring communities are unified. Our children will find high expectations of uniform standards right through their educational career, so we aim high from the beginning.

We also recognise that our children require parental support to ensure they are adhering to our uniform policy. Thank you to parents and families for your cooperation with this.

Uniform Policy 2024 26

We have lots of uniform free to families due to the high number of good quality donations that we receive. Please pop into the lobby to take a look of you would like some.

Rounders win!

Well done to our rounders team who won the small schools round on Wednesday evening. They played very well and were exemplary in their behaviour and sporting attitude. We are very proud of them.

They are through to the finals, which will be played on Monday 15th July, we wish them all the best!

Fire safety at Forest School.

Year Six spent some time learning about how to safely light a fire, during an afternoon of Forest School.

‘After learning about being safe around fires, we were all split up into little groups of five and were equipped with a tin bowl, twigs, sticks, cotton wool and flint and steel.
We each had a go with the flint and steel and then we lit our fires. We learnt how to keep them alight. After that, we roasted marshmallows around the fire! It was a great afternoon!’  Freya (Class 6).

Introducing Microbits in Year 6.

On Thursday, we started our unit on Micro:bits – something we had been looking forward to doing! We learnt what the different parts of the Micro:bit were for and then put them together.  Whilst we used the Make Code, app, we also had to use the skills learnt in Scratch. We were able to create coding to turn the Micro:bit into a name badge, alarm clock and even a dice.   Bethan ( Year 6)
