School closure 9th January 2026. Information on work for Class 6.

Good morning Class 6,

As discussed yesterday, I have set some online activities for you to complete today. All work is set on Edshed. Remember your logins are in your reading journal, or were given to you separately.

Maths :
To be able to read and plot coordinates.

English:
1. To sort adverbials  – remember, an adverbial is a word or group of words (a phrase or clause) that adds more information to a sentence, similar to an adverb, by explaining how, when, where, or why something happened.

2. I have also set a piece of work on conjunctions. This is a short piece of revision work.

Geography:
Quiz on Volcanoes

Spellings:
These are our weekly spellings – please complete both, if you have not already done so.
Spelling words with silent first letters.
Spelling words with le ending.

Finally, please take ten minutes to do TTRS and Rollama. Note; you do not need to complete everything set on the Rollama teacher tasks- just have a go at a couple).

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Miss Darmanin

Learning with a Member of the House of Lords

This term we have been learning in more depth about democracy, rights and governance, including the way in which parliament works. This which has been helpful as the children have been able to apply their knowledge to their wider roles within school.

As part of our learning, we have had a teams call with The Baroness of Richmond, who is a member of The Houses of Lords. In preparation for the call, the children used their learning to prepare questions for her.

The Baroness was incredibly knowledgeable and had many interesting stories to share with the children.

318 Belonging Framework reminder

There is now just a week to go until the official launch of The 3-18 Education Trust’s Belonging Framework! Watch the launch video here.

The Belonging Framework is designed to guide and support staff, parents/carers and external agencies to offer appropriate knowledge and tools which help students in our schools to feel valued and understood. This is something that school and Trust staff have been working on throughout this academic year, led by Sadie Howson our Trust Director of Safeguarding and SEND.

To celebrate the Belonging Framework the Trust has launched a Trust-wide competition to encourage our students to start thinking about what belonging means in their school.

Students from all schools have been invited to submit a creative response to the brief, with house points for all participants and an Amazon voucher for each school’s winning entry.

The deadline for entries is Friday 23rd May.

In our school we have shared the launch video in classes and started to think about what belonging means to us as classes and as a school. Children are encouraged to participate in the competition to share what belonging means to them, this could be in a variety of ways – a picture, words, poem, dance or a piece of art work. Get creative! We look forward to seeing your entries.

We will be selecting a Belonging Ambassador for our school based on the competition entries. All schools will have Belonging Ambassadors, who will work as a team to support the essential sense of belonging within their schools.

Y6 Residential OakerWood day 3

Class 6 are having a thoroughly enjoyable time on their residential. Everyone is busy, motivated and pushing themselves to engage in all the activities. We are so proud of them.

On day 3 they worked as a team to ‘Capture the Flag’ and dug deep to challenge themselves to take the ‘Leap of Faith’.

OakerWood Y6 Residential Day 1

Y6 arrived at their residential with excitement just before lunch today, ready and keen for the fun to begin! After settling in to camp they had lunch and set off to the main activity area to complete the zip wire and high ropes challenge.

A beautiful sunny day with smiles all around. Well to all who faced their fears adn took on the high ropes challenge. The zip wire across the valley is a spectacle to watch adn be part of, again well done to all who faced this challenge today. We’re very proud of you.

Class Six Book Café

The children had time to sit in the cafe and try out new books and authors. It was wonderful to listen to them recommending books and reading them aloud to one another. To top it off, we had hot chocolate and a biscuit to enjoy whilst we read.

Design and Technology project

Class Six have been busy working on their DT project of making vehicles whilst also using their science knowledge to create curcuits to turn the lights on and off and also learning how to program to include an alarm on their vehicle!
