Inspirational Experiences
At Hodnet Primary School, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our rich programme of educational trips and visits is designed to unlock potential, empower every child to thrive, and bring learning to life. In addition to our core curriculum offer, we aim to provide experiences to broaden horizons, wow with a sense of wonder, encourage resilience and challenge thinking, ambition and perception.
Whether it’s a trip to the theatre, an art gallery, a major city, or a local nature reserve, each experience sparks curiosity and encourages resilience. Our focus on science, the arts, and multicultural learning ensures that children encounter diverse ideas and perspectives. Visits to places of worship further promote understanding, respect, and inclusivity.
Our children experience local trips to Hodnet Hall Gardens, St Luke’s Church and other local areas in our immediate locality. We also explore local towns, immersing our children in our rich local heritage, including Shrewsbury ad the birthplace of Darwin and Ironbridge the world UNESCO site rich in history and classed as the birthplace of the industrial revolution.
In addition to local adventures, exploring and supporting our community, celebrating its unique heritage, and fostering a sense of belonging. We also visit further afield, venturing beyond the everyday to build cultural capital, connect with the wider world, and deepen learning across the curriculum.
We also take our children to experience life further afield, showcasing the cities, museums and cultural sites on offer around our country. We visit cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Leicester. A highlight of our trip calendar is our London Experience day; going on the train to London, visiting famous landmarks, travelling on the underground and feeling the hustle and bustle of city life. A stark contrast for our children, many of whom have the delights of a rural homelife.
Visitors
As part of our enriched and engaging curriculum, we welcome visitors into school to bring topics to life and enable children to have first-hand experiences. From workshops to interactive talks, these moments make learning memorable and meaningful.
To inspire future aspirations, we welcome an array of guest speakers, from key workers, lecturers, historians, authors, military personnel to scientists and faith leaders. We also enjoy regular partnerships with Thomas Adams Secondary School, participating in enrichment events, musical showcases and curriculum experiences.
Residentials
Our Year 6 children also have the opportunity to attend a residential visit at Oakerwood Leisure, where they take part in a wide range of outdoor activities. This time away from home, tackling new challenges in unfamiliar surroundings, helps children discover what they are truly capable of and has a huge positive impact on their confidence and resilience.
Through these rich experiences, we showcase our values of being Ready, Safe and Respectful, but also open doors to the wider world, ensuring every child feels empowered to dream big, aim high, and thrive.
