English – Monster Poems

We are excited to be entering a Young Writers competition to have a poem published in a book! Children aged 5-7 have to plan and write an acrostic poem based on a monster that they have created. The Class 1 poems are fantastic and the children have really enjoyed writing them!

Month of the Military Child

We celebrate April being the Month of the Military Child by wearing purple to school. During our outdoor learning session, we thought about the children with military parents whose families might work away from home or who have moved around the country for their parent’s job.

The emblem of the Month of the Military Child is a dandelion because it is strong and resilient. As part of our learning, we first found strong things in our nature area and considered what helps us to stay strong when something is tricky. We then thought about the fact that dandelions grow all sorts of places and found the dandelions growing around us. We then thought about each family being different but special in their own way. Finally, we learnt a calming strategy where we held a dandelion, took a big breath in to smell the dandelion and then blew out to blow the dandelion clock away.

Painting for the Calendar Competition

This year, Hodnet School are painting the month of April for the Market Drayton calendar competition.  All the children put in a huge amount of effort and their paintings were fantastic!

Easter Forest school fun

For Harry’s final day at Hodnet before his big move to Scotland, he asked if the class could play hide and seek so we did! It was great fun hiding around our beautiful nature area. We then noticed that some Easter treats had been hidden around the bark area!

Decorating Easter biscuits

As an Easter treat, the wonderful kitchen staff baked some Easter egg biscuits for us to decorate!

English hook – Monkey see, monkey do

Class One found a letter from the hat seller asking if we had found his hats. We found that they had been blown all over the playground! We gathered the hats up and picked our favourites before they were returned to the hat seller.
