Seaside Holidays in the Past

Class 1 have been learning about seaside holidays during the Victorian times. We have made a black and white film to show activities that people might have taken part in at the beach.

Sewing fish puppets

Class 1 have been making fish puppets. We first learnt to sew using a piece of felt before joining two pieces of felt together. Then we completed our fish puppets using our skills.

Class 1 find a note from a pirate!

Class 1 returned from assembly to find a note from Captain Blackbeard. He had lost his treasure! We went on a hunt following the clues to find the missing treasure. We then made our own treasure maps.

Class 1 visit to the Blue Planet Aquarium

Class 1 had a fantastic day at the Blue Planet aquarium in Chester. We learnt about a variety of creatures that live in the sea and along the coastlines.

Science Week – A fantastic science school by Xplore Science

KS1 thoroughly enjoyed the science show delivered by Xplore Science. We saw rockets fly across the hall, created a whoosh bottle with flames and saw heat through a thermal imaging camera. We learnt about how the structure of a bridge makes it strong, that two forces work in an opposite direction and Mrs Freeman even sat on a seat of nails!

 

Science Week – How long does it take for jelly set?

Class 1 read the story of Supertato who trapped The Evil Pea in a jelly. We wondered how long it takes for a jelly to set and whether adding fruit to a jelly changes how long it takes to set.

Science Week – Does changing the material on a ramp affect how far a car can travel?

Year 1 have been learning about undertaking a fair test and repeating the experiment to verify the results. They investigated whether changing the material on a ramp would change how far a car could travel.

Following algorithms using Beebots

Class 1 have been learning to program the Beebots in Computing. They input an algorithm and followed to see the path the Bee-Bot would take.

Making disgusting sandwiches!

Class 1 have been learning The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in English where Mrs Grinling makes sandwiches filled with hot mustard to scare away some pesky seagulls. As the hook for our next unit of work, we have been out in Forest School making our own disgusting sandwiches!
