We learnt the phoneme g

The day was spent exploring the phoneme g. Making homes for the Gruffalo from the blocks, listening to the Gruffalo story on the Vox Block player, making patterns in glitter, exploring different shades of green paint. During the afternoon in our “Messy Monday” session some of us gardened (planting garlic bulbs) and some of us made guacamole

for our afternoon snack.

Learning the phoneme E

We had a great morning exploring eggs as part of learning the e phoneme.  Inside the discovery box were a range of eggs which the children compared and talked about. We rescued Elsa by reading the words on the ice blocks and made our own Elmer models. The day was finished reading an Elmer story.

Woodland Wednesday – A leaf Theif!

Squirrel needed our help! Leaves were being stolen from squirrel’s tree and he was not happy about it because he just could not understand who was taking them. We tried to cheer him up by making leaf wreathes. We have been learning how to use pva glue carefully and we also talked about suitable leaves and how we could overlap them.
We helped squirrel in the end to understand that in Autumn some trees lose their leaves and that the animals in the story were not thieves! A happy ending for squirrel until… he thinks the grass has been stolen when the snow falls! This story made us smile!

Learning the phoneme l

We had fun today learning our new letter and sound ‘l’. Have a look at our faces as we tasted lemon and lime. We explored lemons and limes more closely using the light box and had a go at observational drawing, some of us played snakes and ladders, constructed different structures with the lego and made butterflies from ‘Wow said the Owl’ using loose parts.
We’ve also really been enjoying our song: All the leaves are falling down.

Exploring textures in art

Parachute PE

We had lots of fun in PE on Friday using the parachute as part of our Superhero themed lesson. We travelled in different ways as superheroes, freezing when Mrs Freeze the villain said, “FREEZE”. We imagined that the colours of the parachute were our superhero capes, jogging carefully around in the same direction as each other and then under the parachute when we heard the colour of our cape. We really had to work hard as a team to lift the parachute. Well done everyone!

Parents phonics workshop

Thanks to all those parents who attended the phonics workshop yesterday, I hope you found it useful to see how our phonics teaching is delivered. We know the importance of how it underpins reading skills and that working together with parents helps children thrive. Those who were unable to attend please find the presentations and information linked at on our class page. All children were sent home with a home support pack yesterday.

We made guacamole

We made guacamole and ate it with pitta bread for an afternoon snack. Children took it in turns to do different jobs – grating the limes, juicing the limes, adding chilli, scooping and mashing the avocado

and chopping tomatoes.
