Forest Friday

We were really lucky that we it was glorious weather for our Forest Friday session! Miss Manton read a book called Leaf Man, we learnt about how to classify different leaves; simple, compound, finger like and lobbed. Some of us went on a leaf hunt, some of us created feasts in the mud kitchen, some of us made leaf rubbings and some of us drilled holes in conkers to make a conker necklace.

Week three in year 2

We have been very busy in class 2 again this week! We started the week making dragons and reading the story of Kashim and the dragon (a warning tale) we are in the immersion part of our Talk For Writing unit. We have also been learning about the United Kingdom and identifying the countries that make up the UK on a map, completing lots of jigsaws to help us recognise this. We have also been making an information leaflet about England, including the physical and human features. We have also been completing challenges to consolidate our understanding of place value of 2 digit numbers.

Fitness

This term in our PE sessions with Mr Ward we are working on fitness. Today (out in the sun) we took part in activities to help improve our fitness and stamina.

Celebrating Roald Dahl Day 2025

We marked Roald Dahl day by reading an extract from The Twits, describing Mr Twit. We then wrote our own descriptions of Mr Twit’s beard and played lots of Roald Dahl games, created great glass elevators from magnetic tiles and designed our own Mr Twit beards!

318 Belonging Framework reminder

There is now just a week to go until the official launch of The 3-18 Education Trust’s Belonging Framework! Watch the launch video here.

The Belonging Framework is designed to guide and support staff, parents/carers and external agencies to offer appropriate knowledge and tools which help students in our schools to feel valued and understood. This is something that school and Trust staff have been working on throughout this academic year, led by Sadie Howson our Trust Director of Safeguarding and SEND.

To celebrate the Belonging Framework the Trust has launched a Trust-wide competition to encourage our students to start thinking about what belonging means in their school.

Students from all schools have been invited to submit a creative response to the brief, with house points for all participants and an Amazon voucher for each school’s winning entry.

The deadline for entries is Friday 23rd May.

In our school we have shared the launch video in classes and started to think about what belonging means to us as classes and as a school. Children are encouraged to participate in the competition to share what belonging means to them, this could be in a variety of ways – a picture, words, poem, dance or a piece of art work. Get creative! We look forward to seeing your entries.

We will be selecting a Belonging Ambassador for our school based on the competition entries. All schools will have Belonging Ambassadors, who will work as a team to support the essential sense of belonging within their schools.

Birds of prey

Class 2 really enjoyed our visit from Shropshire Falconry this afternoon. We learned about what the birds eat, when they hunt, where they come from, and the special features that they have which help them to hunt and survive.

Wheels and axles

We investigated how toy cars work. We discovered that the wheels are attached to an axle so that the wheels turn together. Then we used straws and cardboard wheels to make a set of wheels with an axle. We learned that the wheels need to be held in place on the axle with washers.

Making habitats

In science we have been learning about habitats around the world. We have looked at different habitats, the animals and plants that might live in each habitats and what makes that habitat a suitable place for different living things. Then we chose a habitat to make. We had to think carefully about the features of our habitat and the living things we could include in it.

Creating moving vehicles

We have been working hard making vehicles with axels, a chassis and wheels that move. The children have researched moving toy vehicles and looked at the different parts of these. They designed their own vehicles, tractors, vans, lorries and an ice cream van.
