Friday afternoon finding out about careers

We had another wonderful afternoon finding out about different careers and meeting people from the world of work!

We met:

  • Police Officers – who told us about their jobs and showed us around the police car.
  • A vet nurse – who helped us to bandage some animals, and told us lots about working with animals.
  • A radiographer – we had to guess what parts of the body the x rays were of.
  • A RAF helicopter pilot – who let us try on some uniform and showed us a video of a chinook.
  • Someone who works with cakes and has connections with a Royal baker – she helped us to decorate some cakes.
  • An aeroplane pilot – who told us how wonderful her job is and showed us a view from her office window.
  • A tank engineer – who told us how he became interested in engineering.

Monday afternoon Careers talks

On Monday afternoon we had the opportunity to meet:

  • A blood scientist (she told us how she tested blood in a lab)
  • A zoo keeper (he told us lots of exciting facts about being a zoo keeper)
  • A nurse (she told us about her job and helped us understand why it is important to clean our hands carefully and taught us how to wash our hands like a nurse!)
  • An archaeologist  (he showed some of the things he has found and some of the tools he would use)
  • An RAF representative (who told us about the different jobs we could do in the RAF)
  • A Firefighter (who told us lots about their job including how many cats they have rescued from trees!)

It was a really informative and inspirational afternoon.

Meeting an Author

On Tuesday of our Careers and Aspirations week we met an Author, we found out lots about writing books and we were very inspired!

Autumn poetry

We read a poem about an Autumn woodland and then went outside into our woodland area to explore. We thought about what we could see, feel, hear, smell and created notes to help us write some poetry back in class.

Learning about Wales

We created information leaflets about Wales, learning about the cities, the national flower, the flag, the human and physical features and the national animal.

Artwork inspired by the outdoors

Art work inspired by the great outdoor environment at our school. We created art work in the style of Monet in our sketch books with pencil first and then  moved on to adding colour with acrylic paints.

Forest Schools Friday

This week we worked on map skills, we had a blank map of the forest schools area and a key for a new map and used this to help us make a new map. After we had finished some of us created a forest schools band and performed to our friends and some of us created a feast in the mud kitchen!

Agility

This week Mr Ward taught us about agility in PE, we used the ladders to move in different ways to help us improve our agility.

Learning about Scotland

This week we have been learning about Scotland. We located the cities in an atlas and marked them on a map. We also learnt about their national flower, national animal and the human and physical features. We finished the afternoon reading a lovely story set in Scotland called Margaret’s Unicorn.

Investigating materials

We are learning about the properties of materials, this week we investigated different materials to see if they had the properties of being: opaque, transparent, absorbent, waterproof, flexible. We used our senses to investigate and small pipettes to see if the material was waterproof or absorbant.
