Uniform

A reminder that full uniform is expected at all times. Even though we are approaching the end of term, that shouldn’t mean that we let pride in our uniform standards slip.  We wear our Hodnet blue, to show that we are part of our school team, we are smart, proud and ready to learn. We are also adhering to our school rules and values by wearing the correct uniform, as it is a school policy to wear it.

Uniform is a fundamental part of most schools and other organisations procedures, ensuring communities are unified. Our children will find high expectations of uniform standards right through their educational career, so we aim high from the beginning.

We also recognise that our children require parental support to ensure they are adhering to our uniform policy. Thank you to parents and families for your cooperation with this.

Chester Zoo!

Class 2 had a fantastic time at Chester Zoo. Despite the very warm weather, we soldiered on and really enjoyed seeing all of the incredible animals!

Treasure Hunt!

For the hook for our next story, Captain Blackbeard, Class 2 went on a treasure hunt! They collected a gold coin at every clue which eventually led them to the main prize!

Science Week – A fantastic science school by Xplore Science

KS1 thoroughly enjoyed the science show delivered by Xplore Science. We saw rockets fly across the hall, created a whoosh bottle with flames and saw heat through a thermal imaging camera. We learnt about how the structure of a bridge makes it strong, that two forces work in an opposite direction and Mrs Freeman even sat on a seat of nails!

Recommended reading

Have you ever wondered what our teachers favourite books are?

Have you ever asked them?
If you pop down to the KS1 library you will see their latest recommendations on the new display board. There are also book reviews written by our pupils who attend our lunchtime book club, these are there to give people a helping hand when choosing a next book.

Remember to share your recommendations, you might just inspire someone…

Happy reading everyone.

Creating chemical reactions!

For Science Week 2024, Class 2 were exploring what happens when we mix vinegar with bicarbonate of soda. We used red and yellow food colouring to dye our mixture to make it look like lava erupting from a volcano. We then put some bicarbonate of soda into a balloon, tied the balloon to the top of a bottle filled with vinegar and emptied the soda from the balloon into the bottle. The children were amazed at how the balloon started to inflate!

Making disgusting sandwiches

Class 2 have been learning the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in English where Mrs Grinling makes sandwiches filled with hot mustard to scare away the pesky seagulls that are after the lunch! As the hook for our next piece of work, the children have been busy in Forest School making their own disgusting sandwiches!

Creating calm seascapes

In Art, the children have been learning how to use horizontal paint brush strokes to create different calming shapes and patterns. They studied the work of Monet and used his work to inspire their calm seascapes.
