London’s Burning

We learnt about firefighters when some of the Hodnet Fire station crew came into school and talked to us about keeping safe. We sang them London’s burning as a reward!

Miss Polly Had a Dolly…

We learnt the nursery rhyme: Miss Polly had a Dolly who was sick, sick, sick. Dr Le Brun came to talk to us about being a doctor. He showed us how to take the doll’s temperature, how to bandage and much more. We had a great morning!

Mrs Noden’s favourite nursery rhyme

We all talked about our favourite nursery rhymes. Mrs Noden told us that her favourite nursery rhyme was “5 currant buns in a Bakers Shop”. We made currant buns in our messy Monday activities; we learnt to balance the eggs in a cake mixture with all the other ingredients and we all had a go at whisking. We used the currant buns in our maths lesson the next day to help us learn about comparison and using the stem sentences: ….. has more than…..;…… has fewer than ……. We also set up a bakers shop in our role play area.

How to Catch a Star

We had been reading “How to catch a star” by Oliver Jeffers in reading skills and as part of our story telling week activities we searched for our own stars around the forest schools area and then made them into star pets. We took our star pets on adventures and told them stories. Some of us even took our stars to the seaside and they got trapped in the long seaweed (the daffodils) when they were swimming in the sea!

Nursery Rhyme History

We found out that some nursery rhymes are very old and that they can tell us what life was like in the past. We focused on the nursery rhyme: “Wee Willy Winky” and explored how the preparations we make for bed time now are different to the preparations that children made in the past.

An exciting parcel

Last Monday the King of Nursery Rhyme land sent us a parcel! This contained a letter about how worried he was as all the nursery rhymes had been mixed up and also the great Nursery Rhyme book. We read through the nursery rhymes and worked out how they were mixed up and then talked about our favourite nursery rhymes.

Protecting our plants

Whilst we were out at Forest Schools we were worried that some of the other children in our school would not see the lovely plants that were emerging from the winter soil. So we decided to make signs to show that there were plants growing and that children should be careful!

Lunar New Year Traditions

We found out all about Lunar New Year traditions – writing wishes for a wish tree, making a special dinner to share with all our friends, making decorations, lanterns, red money wallets and cleaning the home ready for the new year.

Brooms sticks

Today the Fairies left us a letter telling us that we had forgotten a vehicles that Mr Gumpy could have used – a broom. We read a story about Winnie the Witch and how she travelled on a broom. Then we made our own brooms and travelled around forest schools on them.
