Calendar – Hodnet Primary School

Independence in the morning

As we are entering our 4th week at school we would now like to see the pupils walking into their class on their own from the green gates at the rear playground. We encourage our pupils to be independent to support themselves and others around them. The playground can be difficult to navigate for young children when there are so many adults, so we kindly ask that parents support us by encouraging children in classes 1, 2, & 3 to walk into their classrooms from the green gates on their own. Parents can drop at the gates and watch from a safe distance to see that they are happy inside their class.

Thank you for your continued support.

Water only

A polite reminder that only water should be in water bottles, not juice. The overwhelming majority of pupils do adhere by this important rule, but some children particularly our younger pupils are bringing juice at the moment. Please can parents ensure that only water is brought to school by children. Thank you.

NSPCC

A reminder that the NSPCC team will be in school next week to deliver vital messages to our children with the aim of informing our children to keep them safe.

Birthday books

Celebrating birthdays with books!

At Hodnet School, we want to encourage children to love books as much as we do. In order to update our class libraries we are launching a new initiative: Birthday Books!

If your child is celebrating their birthday, we would love them to bring a book to donate to their class. This would be instead of bringing sweets to share with the class*. Then, at the end of the day, the class teacher will read their books to the class. We would also put a Birthday Book donation certificate in the front of the book stating who it was donated by.

We want to continue to build class libraries full of up to date and high quality books so at this time we are not looking for donations of used books. Class teachers can provide a list of suggested books for some ideas of books that are suitable for the age range.

Please help us to celebrate your child’s birthday and build the next generation of readers!

*promoting a love of reading and a healthy lifestyle! Please note this is not compulsory, but we will discourage handing out sweets for a birthday treat and would prefer the cost of sweets to go on something far more beneficial for our young people. Thank you for your continued support.

PTA updates

Our wonderful PTA met last night and thankfully a new committee was able to be formed. Long standing members, Claire Godfrey and Lucy Underwood stepped down after many years of supporting school through their PTA work. We are so thankful for their dedication.

The events planned will be able to go ahead, and they will be in touch to share their plans regarding fund raising this year.

If you would like to join or support our PTA, you are very welcome! Please see a member of school staff who can point you in the right direction.
