Class R – Isla for showing kindness to her friends, well done for being a great Team Ant!
Class 1 – Scarlet for increased confidence and independence in learning. Well done, what a great Wise Whale.
Class 2 – Willa for great listening and always being ready to learn, also for being a helpful member of our class team.
Class 3 – Georgia for flying! Wow! Fantastic independent maths adn super reading. Georgia is such a hard worker – well done!
Class 4 – Emma for being an excellent role model for learning adn being a great class friend to others. Well done.
Class 5 – Zack really flying in class 5 – always trying his best and growing in confidence. Well done!
Class 6 – Harry for gaining confidence adn really staring to shine, we are so proud of you.

Well done to everyone who received awards or shoutouts this week, we are very proud of you.

Today we celebrated reading in our celebration assembly, with praise for lots of children for their reading at home and reading throughout the curriculum in school.

Brilliant Birthday books!

Classes have been excited to receive birthday books this week for their class libraries! Thank you so much to the families who have donated a book, the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing the books in class and putting the certificate inside. Mrs Bessant shared the ‘Birthday Book’ idea in celebration assembly today which the children were very excited about and we have received very positive feedback from parents so far about this new initiative.

A reminder that we are encouraging children to buy a book to donate for their birthday rather than bring in sweets to share. Bringing a book is optional, but we do ask that you refrain from brining sweets to hand out for birthdays. Thank you.

Last week we completed our voting for Pupil Responsibilities in school. We apply a democratic process and all pupils are involved. Well done to those who ran campaigns and confidently delivered speeches.

Safeguarding audit

Yesterday we had an external audit of our school safeguarding procedures, completed by Telford & Wrekin Safeguarding Team. The findings were overwhelmingly positive, as we expected them to be, but the feedback was simply outstanding. I am so proud of us all!

A few of the key findings said by the team at the feedback session:

‘Safeguarding at Hodnet is exemplary.’
‘The culture of safeguarding, compliance, care and compassion for children at Hodnet is powerful’.
‘The quality of provision is exceptional’.
‘The ethos, values, culture of safeguarding are clearly evident – leaders and staff care at Hodnet’.
Early Years provision for safeguarding is outstanding. The audit team were very pleased with our EYFS team led by Mrs Noden. Stating that her knowledge and diligence for the changes to the EYFS framework this year were very impressive – she blew them away!
The team were delighted with our grounds and the health and safety of our school site. They saw calm purposeful classrooms with a strong culture of keeping children safe running throughout everything we do. Huge thanks to Jemma and the team at KSPlantscapes for maintaining our grounds, ensuring our children have a safe place to play and learn.
Our children simply shone, what fantastic ambassadors for our school. All the children spoken to were overwhelmingly positive about our school and knew how to be safe, who could help them with a problem, they knew about Childline and the NSPCC and had a good knowledge of online safety. Thanks to Miss Darmanin for her early work with the school council for 25/26, who were only formed last Friday!
The team were impressed with all other areas, including but not limited to; our safeguarding curriculum, our support for all pupils especially those in need of early help, our record keeping and our website.
Our provision for children with additional needs also received high praise, thanks to Mrs Williams for all the hard work she put into ensuring the needs of our learners with SEND are valued, supported and recognised.

We are delighted with this recognition for our strong safeguarding culture in school. I’m sure you will join with me in congratulating our whole school community team for their hard work and determination in this crucial area of education.

Trust Musical Spectacular

Last Friday on the 19th of September, we went to Thomas Adams for a music day, playing in an orchestra. There were around 80 other secondary children playing with us as we were the only primary school.

There was a wide variety of different instruments being played, including; drums, clarinet, double base, violins, flutes, bongos and saxophone. We played keyboard, guitar and trumpet.

Some of us saw previous Hodnet School pupils, and some of the older pupils also helped us to read the music and keep in time. One older pupil is studying music at university, he used to come to Hodnet school. He told us about going to university and playing in bands. Mrs Hayward was our conductor. The songs that we played were: Star wars, Proms, Danger zone, Shake it off and Don’t stop believing. We had a wonderful day and hope to go again next year!

Class 6 – Emily for being hardworking, determined and demonstrating a passion to contribute to whole school life.
