Messages from the office

  • A reminder that the Free School Meals entitlement is changing in September. There are actions for some families to complete, please refer to emails sent out and contact the office with any queries.
  • Arbor – a reminder that we will be moving to Arbor for all communication and payments from September. The use of Parent Pay will cease. Please look out for information about this as there will be actions to complete for all families. Please note, this may be during the school holidays. Thank you for your cooperation to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Please clear any outstanding debt before the end of the school term. Thank you.
  • We have a large amount of lost property, please see the office staff if you would like to look through it. Any remaining items will be donated to Little Stars at the end of term.
  • Please inform the office of any changes to contact details, we must hold up to date addresses and parental contact numbers for all children, thank you for your cooperation with this.

Holidays in term time

A reminder that family holidays in term time will not be authorised and families may be eligible for a fixed penalty notice if they take holidays in term time. The current fine is £80 per parent, per child, per week. The is a national initiative to reduce attendance concerns. The fines are issued by the local authority, not school, and the money does not come to school or the Trust, it is retained by the local authority.

Children have 13 weeks per year of holiday time and 38 weeks of term time, when they are expected to be in school, learning and preparing for the next stages of their development.

Every day counts – attendance is directly linked to positive academic success and well-being, we encourage families to support us by ensuring pupils are in school, ready to learn during term time.

Thank you for your continued support.

Star for a Night

Please support this event at Festival Drayton Theatre, some of the pupils from Hodnet School are taking part in this show.

Water safety

Assemblies this week focussed on water safety and safety during the hot weather. Please reiterate the key messages:

  • children should keep themselves hydrated with water during hot weather
  • they need to wear sun protection on their skin and a sun hat
  • they should stay in the shade as much as possible
  • children should never enter water alone, they should always be supervised by a responsible adult
  • they should never jump into unknown water where there could be hidden hazards to cause significant injury
  • they shouldn’t enter freezing water
  • they should always be able to touch the bottom of the water to keep themselves safe
  • if in danger they should adopt a star floating position on their back and seek help

Rounders success

Huge well done to the Rounders team who played brilliantly and once again showcased their exceptional sportsman skills and caring approach to others.

They came second overall, a very respectable result. Well done to all involved, we are very proud of you.

On 7th July  the year 6 rounders team went to Market Drayton Junior School for a rounders competition. We played three different teams which were Hugo Meynall, Market Drayton Juniors and Hinstock. Everyone had to play each other and whoever won the most games won. We came second, Hugo Meynall was first (only team we lost too) and even though it would ‘ve been nice to see Hodnet’s name on the Trophy, we were gracious . Coming second is still a good achievement!

One very sporting moment was when Harrison saw someone on the the other team was hurt and he rushed over to try and help. It was very supportive of him and generally the whole team were very supportive of each other, so well done everyone.

Rounders was very fun and we hope that when we go to secondary school we will be able to play many more matches.

Safety in the social club car park

We have been alerted to dangerous driving in the car park at drop off and pick up with some families driving at excessive speeds, accelerating and driving without due care. Our children are precious, please take care when driving and parking. Please can parents ensure children are supervised at all times in the car park and are taking care when getting out of the car to prevent injury from passing cars.

The local policing team are aware of this and will continue to monitor the driving and parking around school.

Thank you for your continued support to keep everyone safe. All drivers and pedestrians have a part to play to ensure safeguarding around our school site.
