As a school we are always aiming to improve and grow to ensure that we are continuously providing the best quality education to our children. This year the areas we have selected to develop are:

  • Maths, focussing on key instant recall facts, we will be continuing to work with the Maths Hub, this year focussing on Mastering Number in KS2.
  • Embedding our new curriculum focussing on individual subject teaching and refining our offer as we put the new teaching areas into practise.
  • Embedding new assessment systems and using methods of reflective practice to support children to know more and remember more.
  • We will ensure behaviour management systems are purposeful by regular analysis
  • Ensure attendance remains at 96% or above.
  • Continue to work with the Mental Health Support Team to provide early, high quality interventions to our children and families.
  • Our leadership team will enhance their skill by developing their coaching style.
  • Ensure financial stability.

Pupil Pals cards to combat loneliness

We have once again been asked by Omega to support their combat loneliness appeal by creating cards for people. Omega will send our cards to people who may not otherwise receive a card. This was a great success last year and we would like build on it this year. Paper/card is available in the school hall and the box for completed creations alongside additional information is also in the hall.

Children, remember:

  • Do not put your name on the card
  • Make it a generic card for someone that you don’t know
  • Make it a happy design for an anniversary, birthday or just to wish someone a happy day

Thank you for your kindness in supporting this scheme.

MacMillan coffee afternoon

On Friday 27th September we will be hosting our annual MacMillan coffee afternoon to raise funds. Please can families donate cakes to support us with this event. Children are also welcomed to wear non uniform – something green and bring £1.

The coffee afternoon will start at 2pm for parents in our school hall. Children will be able to join at the end of the school day. The book fair will also open on that day for families to look through the scholastic books and make any purchases.

Punctuality

A polite reminder that school starts at 8.45am, with the main gates opening  just a few minutes before this. Please ensure that children are on time and ready to start their day at 8.45am.

The start of our day is a crucial time for learning interventions and key skills. In our younger classes the pupils start their day with vital fine motor skills such as finger exercises or games skills for early handwriting. As children progress through the school they will participate in a range of start of the day activities based on prior learning in maths and English, helping them to remember key facts and knowledge. Our staff lead interventions at the start of the day, with some phonics activities, emotional support or stretching and gross motor skills in Cool Kids or some important small group work or 1:1 support with Mrs Chaplin.

We know that a great day needs to get off to a good start, so please support us by ensuring your child is on time and ready to be welcomed by our supportive staff team at 8.45am.

We do offer a breakfast club on site from 7.45am, please see Mrs Rhoden or Mrs O’Connor in the school office if you would like information about booking this service.

Holidays in term time

New procedures came into force with regards to leave of absence this term. The government have made some changes to the fixed penalty notice scheme.

The information below is taken directly from the government website:

From August 2024, the fine for school absences across the country will be £80 if paid within 21 days, or £160 if paid within 28 days. This rate is in line with inflation and is the first increase since 2012.

In the case of repeated fines, if a parent receives a second fine for the same child within any three-year period, this will be charged at the higher rate of £160.

Fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action like a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.

If you’re prosecuted and attend court because your child hasn’t been attending school, you could get a fine of up to £2,500.

Money raised via fines is only used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system, and to fund attendance support. Any extra money is returned to the government.

It’s the responsibility of the local authority to decide when to issue fines to parents, meaning the process varies from council to council.  However, under the national rules, all schools are required to consider a fine when a child has missed .. sessions for unauthorised reasons.

A reminder that the £80 fine is per parent, per child. In circumstances where parents are separated, only the parent who can influence the decision making to take the child out of education may be fined.

To clarify, this is a government scheme which schools must implement. All the money from the fixed penalty notices goes to the local authority and the fines are enforced by them. As a school we monitor attendance regularly and have a duty to inform the LA of any children who are missing their educational entitlement due to holidays in term time or any other leave of absence.

The LA Education Welfare team will work with school and families to support children who are missing education for a variety of reasons, the fixed penalty notices stated above are for holidays in term time. However the scheme may be implemented in cases where children are persistently absent and progress to improve this is not being made.

Thankfully the majority of our children have good or better attendance which impacts positively on their social, emotional and learning outcomes. Thank you to our families for your continued support.
