School meals price increase

Important Update: School Lunch Price Increase

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you about an upcoming change to our school lunch price. Starting from 28th April, we will be implementing a price increase for school lunches to £2.60

We understand that any increase in costs can be concerning, and we want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly. Several factors have contributed to this necessary adjustment:

  1. Rising Food Costs: The cost of high-quality ingredients has increased significantly. To continue providing nutritious and balanced meals for our pupils, we must adjust our prices accordingly.
  2. Enhanced Menu Options: We are committed to offering a variety of healthy and appealing meal choices. This includes incorporating fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains and locally sources meat which come at a higher cost.
  3. Maintained Facilities and Equipment: To ensure food safety and enhance the overall dining experience, we have invested in maintaining and upgrading where necessary our kitchen facilities and equipment.
  4. Staff Resource: Our dedicated kitchen staff work hard to prepare and serve meals.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we strive to maintain high standards for our school lunches.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your continued support in our pupils’ health and education.

Penny Lyall
Headteacher

Upcoming and recent events

Class assemblies

Thank you to the many families who attended our class assemblies over recent weeks. Our children in classes 4 and 6 confidently shared their learning to the whole school and their family members, they were brilliant!

Last term classes 5, 3 & 2 expertly shared their learning though their class assembly. Next term we look forward to classes R and 1 sharing their learning. (Class R – 21st May 9am, Class 1 – 18th June 9am).

Sporting events

Well done to our Sportshall Athletics team who competed in the finals at Ellesmere College this week, they were all very proud of their individual achievements and collectively came third overall – fantastic! One member of our team was also nominated for a sporting achievement award by the competition organiser, well done to Arthur C for this recognition of your determination to succeed.

We have also reached the finals for Netball and Tag Rugby, those competitions in Ellesmere and Oswestry will take place before Easter. We wish the teams the very best of luck.

DEAR – a reminder that DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) takes place on the first Friday of every month at 3pm in school, families welcome to come in and share reading at this time with their children.

Hodnet Coffee & Chat – a reminder that Claire Comerford from the parenting support team is in school on the first Tuesday of every month between 9-12. Claire is approachable, caring and extremely knowledgeable, she is available on a drop in basis to discuss any concerns relating to children and family life, and will offer friendly and supportive advice to families. We are so pleased to be able to offer this within Hodnet, meaning that our families don’t have to travel to gain informal advice, we have a person who is able to offer guidance face to face on site on a frequent basis. With that in mind, I urge families to use this service, or we may find that this is taken away.

Parking concerns

We are aware of parents parking on the yellow zig zags at drop off and pick up. This could endanger the lives of our children. Please do not do this.

The police have been involved and we’ve politely requested over many notices and newsletter correspondence posts, but still some people are actively choosing to ignore the messages and demonstrating a blatant disregard for the Highway Code. This is not acting in the best interests of our children and our school community.

We understand that people are busy and drop offs and picks ups can be times of heightened stress with our busy working lives and the increased numbers of people trying to park, but please continue to be responsible and respectful of our school expectations and the Highway Code.

Thank you to the many families who support our values and park respectfully for the safety of our children. We appreciate your continued support.

Activsports club changes

Please see the information below from Mr Roberts.

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Please see below online booking form links for our club offer for this summer. There has been a couple of changes for summer, please see below.

– From the summer term, football club will now be on a Tuesday instead of a Wednesday.

– The Multi Sports club on a Thursday will only be open to children in year 2 – year 6, to match our football club offer.

This is purely down to our staff feedback and difficulty in trying to engage 6 different year groups all within the same session. I understand this will disappoint some parents/ carers who may have year 1 children currently attending this club. They will be allowed to attend as year 2’s in September.
