318 Belonging Framework reminder

There is now just a week to go until the official launch of The 3-18 Education Trust’s Belonging Framework! Watch the launch video here.

The Belonging Framework is designed to guide and support staff, parents/carers and external agencies to offer appropriate knowledge and tools which help students in our schools to feel valued and understood. This is something that school and Trust staff have been working on throughout this academic year, led by Sadie Howson our Trust Director of Safeguarding and SEND.

To celebrate the Belonging Framework the Trust has launched a Trust-wide competition to encourage our students to start thinking about what belonging means in their school.

Students from all schools have been invited to submit a creative response to the brief, with house points for all participants and an Amazon voucher for each school’s winning entry.

The deadline for entries is Friday 23rd May.

In our school we have shared the launch video in classes and started to think about what belonging means to us as classes and as a school. Children are encouraged to participate in the competition to share what belonging means to them, this could be in a variety of ways – a picture, words, poem, dance or a piece of art work. Get creative! We look forward to seeing your entries.

We will be selecting a Belonging Ambassador for our school based on the competition entries. All schools will have Belonging Ambassadors, who will work as a team to support the essential sense of belonging within their schools.

Amazing Aladdin!

Huge well done to our class 3, 4 and 5 children who were simply outstanding in their panto production this week. Their singing, acting, humour and teamwork was exceptional – well done everyone, we are so proud of you! You all remembered your lines adn delivered them clearly and confidently and you sang the many songs beautifully. A shout out to the many soloists who bravely sang their parts with confidence and clarity.

A massive thank you to our staff who enabled this production, making props, organising the logistics, teaching the staging and acting – a huge task, but very well done. Each class presented one scene, with class 4 going first, class 3 in the middle and class 5 at the end. Each class had a full list of parts to fill and all classes learned the songs.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who came to watch, and helped their children with costumes and learning lines at home – your support is greatly appreciated.

Y5 Football Tournament

Our Y5 Football team thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon yesterday participating in the tournament organised by Grove School, they played a series of games and won! We have celebrated their victory in our achievement assembly today where they proudly shared their individual trophies, certificates and stationary sets. Well done to all involved.

Trip to Ironbridge

On Friday March 14th class 5 went to Ironbridge to do some Geography fieldwork. The children were asking the questions: What draws people to Ironbridge? and What is there for visitors in Ironbridge? The children plotted landmarks and places of interest on a map of Ironbridge. They also surveyed the public to ask them why they were in Ironbridge and what they were doing there. (The children were incredibly polite when speaking to members of the public and the public were very happy to give the children their time and answer their questions). Children also collected date in the way of a tally chart as to how many shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels there were in Ironbridge.

Later in the day we walked to Jackfield Tile Museum where children learnt all about Victorian tile making and the start of the industrial revolution. Children got the opportunity to design and make their own tile to keep, which they enjoyed.

Online Safety Week in Class 5

This online safety week class 5 have been learning about scams. They know what a scam is and how to watch out for the red flags that might warn them of scams. They understand that scams can come in the form of emails, text messages, through social media and online games. They know to tell a trusted adult if they are suspicious of anything or think they may have been targeted. Year 5 children have participated in role play scenarios, watched the BBC live online safety lesson, produced posters of their learning and taken part in a quiz to show their learning and understanding on the topic. Well done class 5 you are all very clued up.

S – Sounds too good to be true – then it probably is.
C – Contact you did not expect – do not engage in activity with unknown people.
A – Asks for personal details – never share personal details online.
M – Money or trade is asked for – never share bank details online or trade with unknown players in games.

Testing the Ph of liquids

This week year 5 have been getting stuck into their new science unit ‘properties and changes of materials’ by testing the Ph of different liquids. They had to dip a piece of Ph paper into various liquids and watch as the paper turned a different colour. They then had to match the colour of the paper to a colour chart to decide what Ph the liquid was and whether it was an acid, alkali or neutral liquid.

Online Safety

This week Miss Darmanin led our half termly safety assembly with a focus on Online Safety. Children were reminded of the SMART safety rules and they discussed each element. A huge well done to everyone, Miss Darmanin was very impressed with how knowledgeable the children are. They were all reminded to share the SMART safety rules at home and to always make sure grown ups are aware of their online activity.

Remembrance

Today on Remembrance day, we held our daily assembly at 10.45am and included a two minutes silence at 11 o’clock. Many of our children had participated in Remembrance services or parades on Remembrance Sunday and were very knowledgeable and respectful as expected.

We watched this BBC clip about Remembrance.

We watched this video in silence during our two minutes silence.

Our Y5/6 children who were swimming held their two minutes silence at the pool side.

This afternoon our Reception children walked to the Cenotaph to lay a handmade wreath and children in other classes marked the occasion through class discussion, reading and art.

Class 5’s day at the National Space Centre

This week, years 5 and 6 went on a trip to The National Space Centre in Leicester to consolidate their learning on Earth and Space, which they have been learning about in Science lessons. The children thoroughly enjoyed their time in the space centre with lots of hands on, interactive activities to keep them busy. There were also opportunities to read and learn about the history of space travel and the apollo missions to the moon. The day was topped off with a visit to the planetarium to watch a show about how to become an astronaut.
