Play equipment after school

A safety reminder that the play equipment including the barked area should not be used after school by our children or their siblings. There are signs to remind people of these rules, but recently as the weather has started to become brighter, quite a few people have been using the equipment. Also some families have been playing on the field or going into the forest school area. We don’t intend to stop people having fun, but these areas are only insured to be used by our children, within the school day, under the supervision of school staff. Please can this message be shared with other family members who may collect your children to ensure that we can all continue to adhere to the school rules in the interest of health and safety. Thank you for your support and cooperation with this matter.

Goodbye Miss Hayes

Sadly Miss Hayes, one of our Y3 SENTA’s leaves us today to take up a permanent TA role in another school. Miss Hayes has been with us since September and will be missed, we wish her all the best for the future.

Local Artists competition

Earlier this month we welcomed the local Market Drayton Artist team in to school once again to support us with the calendar competition entries. Our selected month for the 24/25 calendar is May. Some inspiring spring designs started off the day, followed by some specific techniques and support with colour mixing and design. Well done to the pupils who were selected as winners and to the overall winner whose painting will feature in the calendar. All the paintings of the chosen finalists will be displayed as part of the art exhibition in the autumn term.

Recommended reading

Have you ever wondered what our teachers favourite books are?

Have you ever asked them?
If you pop down to the KS1 library you will see their latest recommendations on the new display board. There are also book reviews written by our pupils who attend our lunchtime book club, these are there to give people a helping hand when choosing a next book.

Remember to share your recommendations, you might just inspire someone…

Happy reading everyone.

Gadget shop spending!

Children thoroughly enjoyed spending their cash on science themed gadgets this week. A huge thank you to Miss Evans for organising the shop and to the Y6 pupils and other staff members who enabled it to run successfully.

Summer ready!

A reminder that children need sun hats and water bottles in school daily. Sun cream should be applied before coming to school. School staff are not able to apply sun cream. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Lets hope we have some much needed sunshine soon!

Uniform reminder – please ensure children are coming to school in correct uniform. Shoes need to be worn, not trainers or boots. Leggings and cycling shorts are not school uniform. Some children choose to wear cycling shorts under their summer dresses, that is fine. Please refer to the uniform policy if you are unsure.

Vision Statement

This term we have been reviewing our school vision statement:

Enabling our children to learn and succeed in a nurturing environment.

In assemblies we have been thinking about our school, what Hodnet means to us and collecting words to showcase that. The children generated some excellent ideas, some examples of their words are:

Welcoming, respectful, thoughtful, kind, happy, safe, successful, democratic, determined, equal, fair, accepting, fun, amazing, fantastic, excellent.

In Staff meetings we have also discussed this statement and ways to update it, one simple update suggestion is:

“Enabling all children to flourish in a safe, nurturing and welcoming learning environment”

Our governors will also be looking at this over the summer term. We would like to open this up to all stakeholders, asking parents who have any suggestions of either words or phrases which they would like to add to this review process, to please email ideas/suggestions to penny.lyall@hod.318education.co.uk.

Thank you.
