Staffing update

Mrs Huxtable will be reducing her working hours after February half term from full time to three days per week for the rest of the academic year. Miss Davies will join the teaching team as a job share with Mrs Huxtable in class 4. From Monday 24th February, the teaching pattern in class 4 will be as follows:

  • Mrs Huxtable – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Miss Davies – Thursday and Friday.

Miss Davies has taken on a Teaching Assistant role mainly in class 3, she will do this alongside her class 4 Teaching role, meaning she remains in school full time.

Miss Manton returned to school this week to resume her full time teaching post in class 2.

Mrs Jones has reduced her hours this term, she now works as a Teaching Assistant in a range of classes four days per week, Tuesday to Friday.

Storytelling in action

For National Storytelling week the children enjoyed sharing stories in shared sessions with other classes, they told stories and read stories with younger and older children paired together where possible. Class 6 and Class R joined together, Class 3 and Class 1 joined together and Classes 2, 4 &5 shared stories in the hall. Children an staff thoroughly enjoyed these opportunities to share imaginatively and creatively. Some children took part in the live storytelling sessions by national authors, others will have the opportunity to look back on these as the sessions have been recorded. In assembly times we told funny stories, we thought about the concept of stories and which components might be essential to making a good story. Today in celebration assembly we shared our best bits of the week; the joining together sessions and having different teachers sharing stories were definitely firm favourites.

We hope to see some of the enthusiasm and sparks flying in the children’s creative story writing over the next few weeks. We also hope children take on their new found confidence and love of reading and story making into their upcoming learning.

Guinea Pigs are settling in!

Our delightful little ladies have enjoyed quite a few cuddles since joining us. We have noticed this week that they are starting to be more vocal and get a bit braver! Many of us have seen them eating or playing in their tunnel as we have walked past, they are also staying out more rather than hiding in their house. Its been lovely to see and hear many children excited by their presence in school.

We’ve started to make our own Pet Care file about how to look after them and we’ve bought some new fiction and non-fiction books which are displayed next to the cage. The children have been very keen to help with the daily water changes, feeding and cleaning them out. So far so good. We look forward to many happy times with our new school pets.

Children, remember to send in your name the guinea pig competition entry and 50p before next Wednesday if you’d like to enter.

Parents please remember to complete the consent form on Parent Pay if you agree to your child handling the guinea pigs.

Christingle workshop

We send huge a thank you to members of the local church community who led a Christingle workshop for children after school this week. Many of the volunteers gave up their time to prepare and resource the workshop, which was informative, creative and fun. Children enjoyed finding out about the symbol of the Christingle and each made their own. At the end of the workshop the children were joined by their parents, their Christingles were lit, blessings were shared and we all sang a song by candle light. It was a lovely event enjoyed by all.

The orange represents the world, the red tape symbolises Gods love, the 4 sticks represent the 4 seasons, the foil represents those who reflect the light of Jesus and the candle represents Jesus as the light of the world.

Name the Guinea Pigs competition

Children are aware that we have launched a new competition today to name the new Guinea pigs. Entry forms (pictured above) are in the school hall. Children need to choose a name and draw a picture of the chosen guinea pig then write a brief reason for the name. Entries will be judged before half term. 50p per entry, with all proceeds going towards the care for the animals. Cash only in a named envelope please.

Safety Crew Assembly

Safety Crew Reps held a whole school assembly on Thursday to tell the school about the ideas/initiatives they have chosen for this term. In our meetings, they chose; no trip hazards in the corridors/classrooms, no running in school, keeping the track and nature clear of play equipment and not rocking on chairs. Each child spoke about the areas they were concentrating on and showed their posters which will go up around school as a reminder. We also showed the Safety Crew book which has details of the meetings the reps had with their classes which is available for them to read. Some children had new ideas for next time.

Well done to all our Safety Crew team – you delivered your messages to the whole school with confidence and enthusiasm. We are very proud of you.
