Art – Recreating Jackson Pollock

In Art we have been learning about colour and mixing new colours. We learnt that adding white to colours made a lighter tint and adding dark made a darker shade. We learnt that tints are used to create happy, calm pictures and shades are used to create sad or unhappy pictures.

We mixed darker shades and then recreated Jackson Pollock drip paintings using these shades.

Art – Printing

In Art, we created prints using wax crayons rubbed over textured materials. We collated our rubbings to make a composition.

Computing – Recreating Mondrian

In our computing lessons, we have been learning to create digital paintings. We recreated Mondrian, using the line and the fill tool.

Art – Collaborative printing

In Art, Class 1 have begun their topic of printing. They learnt that applying different amounts of pressure creates different prints. We printed using our hands to create a background. We will then use this as the background for line drawings.

The four countries of the UK

In Geography,  Class 1 have been learning  about the four countries of the UK. We learnt that each country has a flag and a national flower. We then went on a tour of the UK to make and collect the four flags.

Lost and Found

Class 1 found a suitcase in the classroom! We decided to look inside to see who the suitcase might belong to. We found a penguin, some postcards from Antarctica, a fish and a hat!

We found the book Lost and Found and enjoyed learning how to draw a penguin in a drawing tutorial.

Looking for signs of winter

We used the cold weather as an opportunity to go hunting for signs of winter. We found evergreen trees and deciduous trees that had lost all their leaves. We also saw a robin and fungi growing. Then we had some fun playing on the icy grass!

Painting portraits at the Shrewsbury Museum

Class 2 had a wonderful visit to the Shrewsbury Museum. They have been learning about Queens Elizabeth I, Victoria and Elizabeth II in History and came to the museum to learn about portraiture. We looked at portraits of famous people around the museum and then learnt to draw our own portraits.

Class 1 visits Blists Hill!

Class 1 visited Blists Hill as part of our history learning on what life at home was like in the past.

We took part in a Delivery Day workshop, delivering post to Goldilocks’ cottage, the drapers for Little Red Riding Hood and the bakery for the Gingerbread Man. We learnt how to dip candles and how clothes were washed in the laundry.

We loved travelling back in time for the day!
