Goldilocks visits Class 1!

Class 1 had a surprise when they got back from assembly – the police had cordoned off part of our classroom! Class 1 quickly spotted that there were three bowls of porridge, three chairs, a curl of blonde hair, a rag doll in a baby bed and a yellow dress. They quickly realised that Goldilocks must have been in the class! They completed a crime report by writing a list of the evidence that they had found.

Portrait workshop at the Shrewsbury Museum

Class 1 went to Shrewsbury museum to complete a portrait workshop. This supported their learning about the three queens in History and their portrait unit in Art.

In the learning room, we learnt how to paint a self-portrait. The results were fantastic!

We also completed a tour of the museum to look at portraits. We found that portraits often have secret clues in them to tell us about the lives of the person in the portrait.

We also enjoyed exploring the museum before having a well earned play in the Quarry.

Year 1 Science – Exploring fruit and vegetables

In Science, we learnt that fruits and vegetables are plants that we eat. We learnt that when we eat vegetables, we are eating part of the plant – the leaves, the stem, the root and the flowers. We learnt that the fruit contains the seed.

We then learnt how to cut fruit for our D&T and enjoyed tasting it at the end!

Year 1 visit to Hodnet Hall Gardens

Class 1 had a wonderful afternoon at Hodnet Hall Gardens. We compared garden and wild plants and we were shown and tasted lots fruits and vegetables.

Computing – Beebots

In Computing we have been learning to program the beebots. We followed algorithms to program the beebots to move forwards and backwards.

Art – Using warm and cool tones

We finished our unit of work on colour by creating a piece inspired by Robert Delaunay’s ‘The Joy of Life’.  We used warm and cool tones to create our paintings.

Year 1 visit the Blue Planet aquarium

As part of our Science learning on animals, we visited the Blue Planet Aquarium. We loved seeing all the fish and animals close up! We also had a workshop where we learnt about camouflage, carnivores and herbivores and poisonous and venomous animals.

Computing – Learning to type

In computing, we have been learning to type on the laptops.

English hook – Monkey See, Monkey Do

We arrived back from assembly to find a mysterious letter on the carpet. The hat seller had lost all of his hats!

We went on a search and found all of his hats outside!

We then each tried on the hat that we would buy from the hat seller!

Finally we designed new hats that we would sell as the hat seller.
