Belonging competition entries
Well done to those pupils who have submitted an entry to the Trust Belonging competition. Each of the pupils received a Headteachers shout out award today and a raffle ticket.
Garden donations please
Huge thank you to Jake and his family who have kindly donated a planter for use in our school garden. Mrs Noden has asked if anyone would kindly be able to donate some top soil to enable use to use the new planter and the existing planters and tyres to their full capacity and hopefully grow some delicious produce!
If you are able to support with this, please see Mrs Noden.
I would also like to do some rock painting with the children after half term in a lunchtime club, with the aim of creating some interesting rock animals or patterns to add to our garden areas and flower patches. If anyone has any suitable sized rocks which they would like to donate, or that children find when out and about on half term adventures, please save them and send into school. Well done Y6
This week we celebrated the end of the SATs testing! We praised our Y6 in assembly on Monday and again today in achievement assembly. Unfortunately due to illness the tests took slightly longer to fully complete, so we couldn’t do our usual Friday celebrations for the whole class last week. But we have recognised the effort, patience and tolerance this week.
We are very proud of the way our Y6 pupils conducted themselves throughout the testing process. We are also proud of the rest of our school – who all waited patiently, often having later breaktimes and lunchtimes to enable our Y6 pupils to complete their tests with their full time entitlements with the support available to help them to succeed.
Hodnet team work shining once again! Well done everyone.
VE day letters – it’s a small world!
Harriet in Y5 and her family have discovered that her great uncle was on the same ship as Commander John. Wow! What a small world! Through sharing her learning at home, Harriet and her family realised that they recognised some of the events/names and through discussions and research they found this wonderful connection. Harriet has written a second letter to Commander John, which we will send off with our pack over the weekend. In her letter Harriet shares the information they have uncovered and asks John if she knew her great uncle, who sadly lost his life aged just 17 on that ship in the very tragedy that John shared with the children in his letter.
We shared this news in celebration assembly today, with children and staff sharing in the disbelief of this connection. We hope that John receives our letters and who knows he might even respond! We will keep you posted.
This connection highlights the true sense of wonder and amazement that can be found through the enjoyment of history and through sharing learning at home leading to research and further discovery. Thank you to Harriet and her family for sharing this with us, we look forward to hearing about any developments if they arise.

- Class 2 – Pippa for fantastic story writing content, with beautiful handwriting and presentation too! Excellent.
- Class 3 – Florence for always having a delightful attitude to learning and for her real positivity lately, well done, so pleasing to see.
- Class 4 – Dylan for putting in 100% effort into his learning this week. Well done, we are very proud of you.
- Class 5 – Eva for sharing her history knowledge with the rest of the class, always listening well and following instructions.
- Class 6 – The whole class team for their superb attitude, determination and team work. Very proud of you all.
- EY/KS1 Headteacher’s award – Oliver Lennon in class R for his determination this week, by trying his best to fill the raffle ticket box he has showcased good behaviour choices and tried hard with all class activities, well done keep it up!
- KS2 Headteacher’s award – Hettie in class 6 for her determination, perseverance and strive for excellence in her SATs tests last week.
- A huge shout out to all our Y6 pupils who tried their very best with the national testing last week – they did themselves proud. We are proud of their team spirit, supporting each other by being patient, kind and tolerant.
- Lunchtime award – Eleanor in class 1 for being polite and respectful.
- Raffle ticket – Sid in class 1.

Shropshire Star article
On 11th June a journalist from the Shropshire Star will be spending the morning in school talking to staff and children about our school. This is part of their project about great schools. The question they aim to showcase is What makes Hodnet School great?
