Storytelling in action

For National Storytelling week the children enjoyed sharing stories in shared sessions with other classes, they told stories and read stories with younger and older children paired together where possible. Class 6 and Class R joined together, Class 3 and Class 1 joined together and Classes 2, 4 &5 shared stories in the hall. Children an staff thoroughly enjoyed these opportunities to share imaginatively and creatively. Some children took part in the live storytelling sessions by national authors, others will have the opportunity to look back on these as the sessions have been recorded. In assembly times we told funny stories, we thought about the concept of stories and which components might be essential to making a good story. Today in celebration assembly we shared our best bits of the week; the joining together sessions and having different teachers sharing stories were definitely firm favourites.

We hope to see some of the enthusiasm and sparks flying in the children’s creative story writing over the next few weeks. We also hope children take on their new found confidence and love of reading and story making into their upcoming learning.

Name the Guinea Pigs competition

Children are aware that we have launched a new competition today to name the new Guinea pigs. Entry forms (pictured above) are in the school hall. Children need to choose a name and draw a picture of the chosen guinea pig then write a brief reason for the name. Entries will be judged before half term. 50p per entry, with all proceeds going towards the care for the animals. Cash only in a named envelope please.

Safety Crew Assembly

Safety Crew Reps held a whole school assembly on Thursday to tell the school about the ideas/initiatives they have chosen for this term. In our meetings, they chose; no trip hazards in the corridors/classrooms, no running in school, keeping the track and nature clear of play equipment and not rocking on chairs. Each child spoke about the areas they were concentrating on and showed their posters which will go up around school as a reminder. We also showed the Safety Crew book which has details of the meetings the reps had with their classes which is available for them to read. Some children had new ideas for next time.

Well done to all our Safety Crew team – you delivered your messages to the whole school with confidence and enthusiasm. We are very proud of you.
