Parents evening

Thank you to parents and carers for attending parents evening this week and for writing positive post it notes for the children to find in their books showing them how proud we are of them. It always makes children smile when they find their notes.

100% of parents had a parents evening booking, 93% attended.

Most people who couldn’t attend for exceptional circumstances have made an alternative arrangement to meet with class teachers, please see your child’s class teacher/s if you have not yet done this. Please note staff can be available to meet parents at other times as we want to ensure a strong parent partnership, however they can only do this on or around the end of the school day and at their discretion, this is not an expectation as staff have already provided the allocated parents evening times.

Wraparound care bookings

A polite reminder:

Bookings for before and after school sessions must be made in advance – the deadline is Thursday at midnight for bookings for the following week(s). Any correspondence regarding bookings must be made by email to admin@hod.318education.co.uk or by telephone, please do not use named email addresses as these may not be monitored when that member of staff is not at work or in class. Emails are also not monitored out of school hours, so please do not expect a response.

There may be rare exceptions when parents work shift patterns or are asked to work at short notice – these bookings can be accommodated, again by email, telephone or face-to-face.

If bookings are missed on a regular basis, with no exceptional circumstances, there may be an admin charge applied.

Staffing update

With a heavy heart I write to inform you that Mrs Akers is leaving our school. Her last day will be on Friday 4th April. Mrs Noden will teach our Reception class full time until the end of the academic year to ensure consistency for the children.

Mrs Akers has been a member of staff since January 2017, she is an outstanding practitioner and will be so very sadly missed. Her calm, positive and hugely creative outlook has been a joy to many children and staff throughout her time at Hodnet. Whilst we know we will miss her greatly, we also wish her the very best of luck in her new chosen path as she embarks on a new challenge within the Early years assessment team at Shrewsbury College. Something which we are sure she will excel in and will continue to spread her wealth of Early Years knowledge and expertise. Mrs Akers will also continue to work at the museum delivering exciting creative children’s workshops, so we know our children will benefit from this though our educational visits programme.

I am sure you will join with we in wishing Mrs Akers all the very best for the future.

World Book Day fun!

We’ve had a super day celebrating World Book Day, well done to all our children, families and staff who have gone to great effort with costumes – fabulously creative!

Above are some pictures of our character groups. Below are some photos from our morning parade in the hall, where children clapped and cheered, celebrating the creative costumes and fond memories of wonderful characters.

To celebrate the joy of reading we have encompassed the theme of ‘read your way’ by asking children to complete a feather to show where books can take them, for example from a magical journey of wonder under the sea or through the pages of The Far Away Tree to the corridors of Hogwarts; reading can take us all to interesting places sparking our imagination. We will display our feathers as a set of wings to symbolise a journey and share some of the captions around school.

We also had great fun with an intriguing competition this morning – The Masked Reader! But this wasn’t a singing competition like its partner the Masked Singer, no, this was a reading competition! Children had to guess which staff member was behind the mask and which story they were reading. Brilliant fun was had by all. Thank you to the staff for their efforts in making the video clips, they were fantastic to watch. Huge thanks to Mrs Bessant, our English lead, for her organisation of the creative assemblies today, showing us that reading most certainly is for pleasure!

Our children also participated in a book swap within their classes. Each child brought a book to swap so they could take a new one home. Some classes did this as a book cafe, some enjoyed some shared reading and some created a free book shop.

 

318 Trust parents annual survey

Dear Parents/Carers,

Home time / collection arrangements

A polite reminder that if someone other than a parent or known grandparent is collecting your child, i.e. if they are going home with a class friend or another adult, please inform school beforehand. Class teachers cannot accept notice from children about their collection arrangements, or from another adult stating they are collecting, we need confirmation from the child’s parent about who is collecting them in order to safeguard everyone. Please phone or email the school office if plans change at the last minute. Thank you.

In a similar way, please inform school if you change your child’s pre-booked collection arrangements, i.e. you collect your child instead of sending them to a club session. In order to safeguard everyone at the end of the school day, we ensure that staff know where children are going, it’s often busy time with multiple clubs, school bus arrangements and children going home though different class doors, so we need to be informed prior to the pick up time about any changes. Again, please phone or email the school office if plans change at the last minute. Thank you.
