Matching CAPITALS and lower case letters

In our phonics sessions this week we have been matching lower case and capital letters, in our woodland Wednesday session we searched for CAPITAL LETTERS and wrote the lowercase letter to match them using chalk.

The Four Seasons

We created calendar pictures, colour mixing paints to create the correct colours to help us add the leaves to a tree in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The class were inspired by an photographic image of the same deciduous tree in the 4 different seasons.

Super subitising

This week in our maths mastery sessions we have been focusing on subitising. We have been looking at linear groups and subitising within them, for example in a line of 4 dots we might explain that we can see 2 and 2. We have been focusing on what we can see, rather than counting. We were able to choose from lots of activities to help us develop that skill, making playdough cakes for the number blocks, playing dice games (making a snowman) matching the correct number of snowballs to a numicon shape, playing the subitising guessing game.

Good Friends

In our PSED session on Tuesday we focused on “I wonder how I can be a good friend”, we talked about ways in which we can be a good friend and how we might make friends if we were struggling, we read a story called: Meesha makes friends. During activity time we make friendship spotting binoculars and spotted children in our class being good friends through them.

First day of school in 2026

We had a great first day back and settled back into school routines quickly. The snow excitement was great and we bought some snow activities inside – a snowman dice game to help us recall our tricky words, painting snow men and snow ball sorting. At break times we got to go out and explore the snow! We also enjoyed sharing a new Talk for Writing book Mr Gumpy’s outing – we used the small world items to help us retell the story. We also made some “Happy New Year” cards in the writing workshop. In the afternoon we talked about different vehicles and sorted them according to where they travel – on road, on grass, on tracks, in the air or on water.

Learning about grouping in maths

This week we have started learning about grouping and repeated addition in our mathematics lessons. We have been working with cubes to help us develop an understanding of this.

Making Pizza

Our Design and Technology project this week has been researching, designing and making pizza. We kicked off the project tasting and evaluating pizza toppings, we designed our own pizzas using toppings we had tasted. Finally we created the pizzas we had designed, we tasted them and then evaluated them.

A Warning Tale

To start our Talk for Writing units off this term we are learning about warning tales. This week we have made a text map, which the children have helped with ideas for, to help us learn the text. We have been busy learning the warning tale about Eddie and Minty two adventurous polar bear cubs who do not listen to their mother’s warning and end up in trouble. We have also been thinking of questions to ask Minty and Eddie to help us find out more about the text.

National Tree week

As part of national tree week we read a book about an ever green tree: The Christmas Pine. We looked at the shape of the tree, we searched for ever green trees in Forest Schools and deciduous trees and talked about the differences. We then made our own ever green trees by weaving pieces of ever green between elastic bands, we also made some Christmas decorations from ever green trees. Some of us planted some willow that we had been keeping in water so it would grow roots, we are hoping that it will establish it’s self over winter and then grow in the Spring and Summer

Traveling, jumping and landing safely

During Autumn Term PE lessons we learnt skills of traveling, jumping and landing safely.
