Learning about Diwali

We had a wonderful few days learning about the celebration Diwali. We learnt about the story behind Diwali of the Evil Ravana who represents dark and Rama and Sita who represent light. During the three days we learnt about how children who are in the Hindu culture celebrate and prepare for the festival. We made sweets called coconut barfi, measuring and mixing carefully. We also made diva lamps from clay and created rangoli patterns. We enjoyed reading a story book about a little girl who was preparing for Diwali.

Leading the Diwali Assembly

Kyaara and Kiaan were incredibly brave to talk to the whole school about how they celebrate Diwali, they spoke very confidently and were able to answer lots of the questions that children had about how they celebrate. Kyaara and Kiaan’s Mum sent in lots of photos of them celebrating Diwali to show the other children in school, they spoke about the rangoli patterns they make, how they decorate the house, why they celebrate, going to the temple and the foods that they eat. Kiaan said his favourite part are the fireworks!

Well done, we are very proud of you.

Making chocolate lolly pops

Today we learnt the phoneme ll and so we made chocolate lolly pops. We talked about how the chocolate changed from hard to soft and then hard again so we could eat them. We put sprinkles on the lolly pops and compared the amount of sprinkles on each, linked to our morning maths. We used the stem sentence: ….. has more than…….

New Audio book player in the library

Book club enjoyed listening to “Old Bear” stories on our new Vox Block audio book player today. Thank you to all those who bought Brownie from the school Brownie sale, we raised enough money to buy the vox block and three books, for both the whole school. Mrs Noden is currently thinking of other ways of raising some money to buy more stories, the book club children looked at which they would like today. Keep an eye out for more fund raising schemes, they will probably involve buying some sort of baked goods!

b is for butter

We made cream into butter using a butter churn and a jar with a bouncy ball. We then used butter pats in order to shape the butter.

b is for bread

We had a great morning making our own bread rolls, we followed a recipe, measured, kneaded and let the dough prove. After it had proved we shaped the dough into rolls.

Autumn Equinox Party

The Forest Schools Fairies wrote to us and told us about the Autumn Equinox, they also left us some things to help us celebrate with a party, including a new fire pit. We used our new blending skills to read the word “pit” on the box and then worked out how to put it together. Some children helped Mrs Freeman put the fire pit together. They also left us delicious apple cake to eat at the party, marshmallows to toast on the fire and the things to make leaf crowns from.

Mrs Gregory lit our first forest schools fire and we all learnt how to keep safe around the forest schools fire pit area.
