Monday afternoon Careers talks

On Monday afternoon we had the opportunity to meet:

  • A blood scientist (she told us how she tested blood in a lab)
  • A zoo keeper (he told us lots of exciting facts about being a zoo keeper)
  • A nurse (she told us about her job and helped us understand why it is important to clean our hands carefully and taught us how to wash our hands like a nurse!)
  • An archaeologist  (he showed some of the things he has found and some of the tools he would use)
  • An RAF representative (who told us about the different jobs we could do in the RAF)
  • A Firefighter (who told us lots about their job including how many cats they have rescued from trees!)

It was a really informative and inspirational afternoon.

Meeting an Author

On Tuesday of our Careers and Aspirations week we met an Author, we found out lots about writing books and we were very inspired!

Woodland Wednesday – A leaf Theif!

Squirrel needed our help! Leaves were being stolen from squirrel’s tree and he was not happy about it because he just could not understand who was taking them. We tried to cheer him up by making leaf wreathes. We have been learning how to use pva glue carefully and we also talked about suitable leaves and how we could overlap them.
We helped squirrel in the end to understand that in Autumn some trees lose their leaves and that the animals in the story were not thieves! A happy ending for squirrel until… he thinks the grass has been stolen when the snow falls! This story made us smile!

Learning the phoneme l

We had fun today learning our new letter and sound ‘l’. Have a look at our faces as we tasted lemon and lime. We explored lemons and limes more closely using the light box and had a go at observational drawing, some of us played snakes and ladders, constructed different structures with the lego and made butterflies from ‘Wow said the Owl’ using loose parts.
We’ve also really been enjoying our song: All the leaves are falling down.

Exploring textures in art

We explored different textures outside in our art lesson this week.

Autumn poetry

We read a poem about an Autumn woodland and then went outside into our woodland area to explore. We thought about what we could see, feel, hear, smell and created notes to help us write some poetry back in class.

Learning about Wales

We created information leaflets about Wales, learning about the cities, the national flower, the flag, the human and physical features and the national animal.

Artwork inspired by the outdoors

Art work inspired by the great outdoor environment at our school. We created art work in the style of Monet in our sketch books with pencil first and then  moved on to adding colour with acrylic paints.

Forest Schools Friday

This week we worked on map skills, we had a blank map of the forest schools area and a key for a new map and used this to help us make a new map. After we had finished some of us created a forest schools band and performed to our friends and some of us created a feast in the mud kitchen!

Agility

This week Mr Ward taught us about agility in PE, we used the ladders to move in different ways to help us improve our agility.
