Science week – making elderflower cordial

We picked the elderflowers from our school grounds and then Mrs Freeman made the sugar solution to pour over the flowers. We learnt about dissolving.

Science week – bubble investigations

We tried to blow large bubbles and also investigated what would happen to the shape of the bubble when the bubble blowers were different shapes.

Our First School trip

In April we had a great day on our first school trip. We visited Shrewsbury Museum in the morning, after lunch we walked around Shrewsbury. By the end of the day we were experts at spotting Tudor buildings!

Summer ready!

A reminder that children need sun hats and water bottles in school daily. Sun cream should be applied before coming to school. School staff are not able to apply sun cream. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Lets hope we have some much needed sunshine soon!

Uniform reminder – please ensure children are coming to school in correct uniform. Shoes need to be worn, not trainers or boots. Leggings and cycling shorts are not school uniform. Some children choose to wear cycling shorts under their summer dresses, that is fine. Please refer to the uniform policy if you are unsure.

Vision Statement

This term we have been reviewing our school vision statement:

Enabling our children to learn and succeed in a nurturing environment.

In assemblies we have been thinking about our school, what Hodnet means to us and collecting words to showcase that. The children generated some excellent ideas, some examples of their words are:

Welcoming, respectful, thoughtful, kind, happy, safe, successful, democratic, determined, equal, fair, accepting, fun, amazing, fantastic, excellent.

In Staff meetings we have also discussed this statement and ways to update it, one simple update suggestion is:

“Enabling all children to flourish in a safe, nurturing and welcoming learning environment”

Our governors will also be looking at this over the summer term. We would like to open this up to all stakeholders, asking parents who have any suggestions of either words or phrases which they would like to add to this review process, to please email ideas/suggestions to penny.lyall@hod.318education.co.uk.

Thank you.
