More time telling

We have created our own clocks and used them to tell the time past the hour in minutes and then in Friday’s maths session to the hour. We made times on the clocks and then asked our partner to write them down on a white board.

Making pictograms

This week in our computing session we have learnt to make simple pictograms on a computer programme. We made tally charts and then converted these into pictograms.

Learning to tell the time

Our maths learning this week is about time. We started off by making number lines on post it notes, first counting in ones from 0-12 and ordering and then counting in 5s from 0 to 60. We then spaced these out around a circle and made sure that we put the 0 underneath the 60 and the 12. We learnt about counting in fives around the clock to help us tell the minutes and then using the shorter hand to tell the hour time.

Exploring measurement

This week we have been exploring measurement in our mathematics sessions. We have been measuring using a ruler, weighing, measuring capacity and solving problems involving all of these!

Outdoor sculpture

Inspired some Andy Goldsworthy outdoor sculpture we created some outdoor sculpture of our own, we mixed soil and water to the correct consistency to act as clay and used this in lots of our sculpture.

David Attenborough is 100

Class 2 had a great day thinking about how David Attenborough has had such an impact on the world we live in now. We watched some clips of his documentaries and carried on our learning during activities time.

  • weighing animals – making estimates and then using the balance scales to find out the weight of the animals.
  • grouping and classifying animals and then making a block graph to show how we had grouped them.
  • creating fact files about animals.
  • pretending we were David Attenborough and making our own documentary.
  • creating a picture of different animals to go on a display of 100 animals for 100 years of David Attenborough.
  • creating ocean plates – thinking about how our use of plastic can impact our oceans.

We also enjoyed a workshop with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust creating a wild flower seed bomb. We are hoping that lots of children plant these at home or somewhere they find suitable and then we will help to improve habits for lots of our worlds tiny creatures!

Paper sculpture techniques

During our art sessions we have been learning paper sculpture techniques, we explored different ways to make paper 3D and stand out from the page.
