Music

This week in music we have been learning about pulse and tempo. At the beginning of the lesson we moved along to the pulse of the music following the penguins and we also warmed our faces up ready for singing. We sang a song and our partners tried to play the notes along with it on the glockenspiel.  Part of the lesson was listening to the music Bolero, we watched an orchestra playing this piece of music and tried to identify the pulse.

Team building in PE

This term we are focusing on team building in our Thursday afternoon PE sessions. This week we took part in some Pirate activities, starting off with the game “Captains Coming” and then working as teams to help all the pirates in our crew move from one “island” (side of the hall) to the other “island” (the other side of the hall).

The Runaway train science investigation

We read a story called: “The Runaway Train” investigated our own runaway train. This time in the science investigation we were focusing on making predictions; we made predictions about which material on the ramp would slow down the train the best. Lots of us used the existing knowledge we had to help make our predictions. At the end of the day we carried out the investigation, some children from the class took on roles such as: investigator, health and safety officer, recorder, measurer and fair test checker.

Mr Gumpy’s picnic

To finish our project about journeys and writing a new version of the story Mr Gumpy’s outing we had a picnic in Forest Schools. Mr Gumpy kindly sent us all the provisions for the picnic, we iced biscuits (decorating them with the initial phonemes of our names) and buttered bread. We played some parachute games and enjoyed our picnic outdoors.

We made a top tips display which we talked about at the end of the day.

Christingle workshop

After school on Monday 26th January many children from across the school took part in a Christingle workshop which was run by the local Church community. Children learnt about the symbolism of the Christingle as they made their own to take home. At the end parents and guardians were invited in to share this with their children and sing some special songs.
