Year of Reading – April – Reading outside!
2026 is the National Year of Reading. At Hodnet School, we have created a Year of Reading moment for each month and April have children the opportunity to read outside. The weather has been glorious and perfect for enjoying a book in the beautiful grounds of our school!
Nursery information published
Our School Nursery offer guide, booking forms and registration forms have been published on our website this week and shared with eligible current pre-school families. Please see our website page for information.
Nursery & Hodnet Pre-School Playgroup – Hodnet Primary School
We are delighted to be opening our term time Nursery provision from September, we will have 20 available daily places for children aged 2-4 years, offering a wraparound provision to support working families.
Please share with families who may be interested in joining our school Nursery. Thank you for supporting us as our school grows.
Gardening Club
Hodnet School runs a gardening club for the children after school on a Monday with Mrs Gregory.
We would really appreciate if any families have any spare trowels that the children could use in Gardening Club, if you have any that you could donate please bring them in and we will pass them to Mrs Gregory in Class 1.

Cool Milk Information
Did you know?
Children currently receive free school milk until their fifth birthday through the Government’s school milk scheme. After this point, the entitlement ends. This means that within the same Reception class some children continue receiving milk while others do not, depending on when their birthday falls.
At Hodnet school, we accommodate this to ensure that no child goes without, including providing additional milk for children when required. However, we’re supporting the Fair Milk for a Fair Start campaign, which calls for a simple change so all children can receive free school milk until the end of their Reception year.

Litter Picking in Hodnet- Eco Warriers and School Council
This year the school council decided to set a goal of improving the school’s contribution to our local community.
Currently, there are two projects; keeping our village tidy and working with Hodnet Hall Gardens
On Friday 24th April, our KS2 school council and Eco Club representatives have completed a litter pick around the Working Mens Club and along the path. Taking care of our local community is so important although the children were astonished at the amount of plastic rubbish.

Mrs Bustin
Sadly, Mrs Bustin will be leaving our staff team at May half term. We will miss her greatly, we wish her the very best of luck and many happy times in her new volunteering role.
