We are very proud of our sporting achievements over the years at Hodnet. We received the Gold School Games Award for five consecutive years, placing us in an elite group of schools in the country. We were awarded the Platinum Award in 2017-18 and have sustained this until the present day. We renew our application for this award annually and are very proud to be a Platinum Games Award holding school.
What is sports premium funding and how is it spent?
Since September 2013, all schools have received additional money from the government to support sport in school in the form of a Sports Premium Grant. Since the academic year 2017-18 the national funding doubled. We receive just over £16,000 annually to spend on our provision for sports and well-being. See the Sports Premium Impact Statements below for a breakdown of how this money has been used every year.
We share cluster PE developments and competitions, continued CPD for all teachers, increased the participation in Extra Curricular clubs and Change for Life sessions and provided extra funding to ensure our KS2 children had access to specialist swimming teachers.
Covid had a significant impact on school sports. School competition calendar’s were significantly reduced due to the restrictions on inter-school competitions and other elements of our usual sporting fixtures which were not allowed throughout that time. However, competitions resumed in Spring 22 with coaches and judges attending individual settings to judge sports then compiling the results and sharing with schools. A different style of competition, but still good to be back part of competitive sport.
From September 23 we resumed our usual sporting calendar and have enjoyed local and county competitions again. We usually participate in competitions in the following areas:
- Cross Country
- Tag Rugby
- Gymnastics
- Hockey
- Sportshall Athletics
- Netball
- Archery
- Alternative Sports (boccia etc)
- Tennis
- Swimming Gala
- Rounders
The school and governors are committed to providing access to high quality teaching for all pupils and increased opportunities to compete at varying levels.
